This is a response to a question from a client concerning the dangers of encounters with entities…
That depends on what kind of entity they are. Entities in general, interact with living people for the purpose of having an “energetic” exchange. This can be experienced as sensations, temperature changes, fatigue, etc. This exchange is either positive or negative. Examples of positive exchanges are an encounter with a spirit animal, spirit guide, ancestor spirit etc. In this kind of interaction both parties make a benefitual exchange between them. In a negative exchange energy is taken and not shared from the living person through manipulation and theft. Examples of this are soul loss and possession.
A don’t think we need to talk further about positive exchanges, so we will concentrate on negative ones.
It is a misnomer to believe that entities that use negative exchanges most often use fear or threat to achieve access to one’s energy (soul energy that is). In over two decades of performing de-possessions, I have discovered that the most active exchange is manipulation. This manipulation is most often accomplished in one of two ways – disguise or deception. All too often, I have seen entities reveal themselves as something other than what they are; for example a demon appearing as the spirit of a small child. In the case of deception, often a negative entity will test the person first by confrontation or inducing fear, and if they stand up to them, they will change their approach, such as be inactive for some time in an attempt to cause the person(s) to let their guard down.
The most dangerous form of deception is disguise. Entities (not just demonic) can assume a role or image projected by the person. This could be a deceased relative or even a religious image. For example, I have had past clients that believed in Christian ideology, experiencing entities that made them believe that they were Satan himself. For those who believe in such (Satan), that can be so terrifying that they see no hope against such a thing. They can also achieve the opposite - if a person who believes in angels, project the thought that this activity must me ‘my’ guardian angel toward haunting activity; an entity can assume such a form to gain access to that person’s energy. The key to defending against this is not to project conclusions toward haunting activity until the identity of an entity has truly been determined. Never fall under the belief that any religious belief or being is too powerful to ‘allow’ such a thing to happen. They didn’t allow it – the person did!
I have always said, “Just because one can see spirit, doesn’t mean they possess the knowledge or ability to deal with it.”
With all that said – no, it is not uncommon for a negative entity to approach a living person first with hostility then friendship to find a way to gain access to them. Note: not all negative entities perform possession to take your energy, they can steal it bit by bit – remember soul loss can be partial or complete. So, unless you can accurately determine what the entity truly is that you are encountering, NEVER assume they are what they say they are OR what they are doing is truly harmless. That is why in the past traditional cultures avoided spiritual encounters, such as entering grave yards or performing spiritual interactions (paranormal investigations, séances, etc.) without the guidance of a trained, knowledgeable, experienced professional (priest, thaumaturge, troldmand, shaman, etc.).
Unlike what all the misguided New Agers say, it is NOT all love and light out there. The spirit world is not unlike the physical world, with all the negativity, lies, deception, and violence - it is just as dangerous.
On the other hand, sometimes an entity may just want the proper respects observed toward it - often the case with vaettrs and wights, which is again, a reason to work with one who is able to identify the entity and what it desires.
