I have noticed that many, many paranormal investigators use what I call the “New Age Technique” of “Go into the light” when trying to help ghosts move on. In my research on old practices and shamanic cultures, I have found that on the “journey into the afterlife” there are many pitfalls that can delay or even trap a soul from leaving this physical realm. In many traditional cultures, when a person dies, their soul is in an extremely disoriented state and will remain that way until they reach the “other side” or the afterlife. Along the way are many traps and pitfalls, including such things as fields of plenty to distract them, tunnels of dark and light to trap them; and passersby who will try to dissuade one against reaching their destination or mislead them toward another one. If they are fortunate, they may have a guide such as a spirit animal, ancestor, or a Valkyrie or the like. Souls, who do not reach that destination, will remain in such a state, and when they encounter the living they will have resentment toward them for they (the person) are grounded to a place and the wandering soul is not. Something else I have learned from my research of traditional cultures is that these ghosts who “still walk this earth” and have not made the journey, is always for a reason - and that reason is usually not a good one.
My training in spirits also taught me a very important rule – that is this – just because one can see spirit does not mean they know how to identify or deal with that spirit. There are many kinds of spirits and demons out there, many of which have the ability to shape-shift, or what I call “disguise themself”. Often times, these negative entities will assume another form, usually less threatening so that they deceive their intended victim. Have you have ever heard of the famous haunting from the late eighties and into the nineties called “The Heartland Ghost” where a ghost of a supposed little girl was haunting a family and attacking the father of the present family in the home – leaving him with scratch marks over his entire body? One of the first times I saw a documentary on this haunting I told my wife that the ghost was not that of a little girl but a shape-shifter and this had to do with revenge from something the father of the household had done in a past life. The psychics they brought into the home all believed it to be a ghost of a little girl they called Amy – even the renowned Peter James first thought it was just that. A few years later in another documentary about the haunting a psychic entered the home and immediately said that this was not the spirit of a little girl – it was something far worse and it was angry at the father of the household over something. After it was discovered that the entity was not what it pretending to be, Peter James came back and encountered the spirit again. This time he argued with it, and suddenly announced he had to leave the house, and to my knowledge never returned.
In traditional societies people never entered haunted locations without a medicine man, shaman, druid, troldmand, etc. as an escort for they knew that even the spirits of their own ancestors may return and cause havoc. Often times in these cultures they believed that spirits of dead will and often do return for such things as unfinished business. The spirit will be frantic enough to achieve what it wants that it will hurt anyone in the area to accomplish it. These traditional peoples had just as much (and probably even more) spiritual protection with them as people today, and still they avoided such encounters whenever possible. Why is it today “fools rush in where angels fear to tread” where people who “think” they have adequate spiritual protection and knowledge go into haunted locations to investigate them. What has changed?
People think they can simply “ask for god’s protection” or imagine putting a field of “white light” around them and they could walk into hell itself and be safe. With this same philosophy, these people should be able avoid all illness, injury and accident – but they don’t. Think about it.
Now that I have given you the background information that I draw my conclusions on, I will get to my point here.
These investigators who are “assisting” entities to “move on” are first of all not qualified to do so, and probably aren’t really achieving anything at all because they don’t have the power to bypass all the barriers to opening what is essentially a portal into another realm. People like this often work on “feel” alone and much like one scientific explanation of a poltergeist being nothing more than psychopathology meaning that it is aggression in the subjects themselves that is responsible for the action of movement of objects or feel impressions on or about persons witnessing the events.
Note that as with traditional belief systems that tunnels of light and dark can lead unwary souls into a trap, and if in fact there are many different tunnels of light out there, how can one be sure you are directing a spirit into the right one? Not to mention that this “theory” of a tunnel of light comes from Christianity and THAT CAN’T BE SO TRUSTED IN ITSELF.
Also, if you are assisting the soul of deceased person to move on, what were their religious beliefs? Are you forcing a soul that isn’t Christian through a Christian rite? Is this not damaging in itself? Should that soul move in such a direction? Could it be harboring negative energy that you are unaware of? Are you even qualified to perform such a rite, and it is a ceremony.
With this said, I am not saying that in every case of aiding a spirit to move on is wrong, I am saying that I think it is time to reassess these so called procedures that are considered the norm in these cases, come to realize that what is considered the norm of spiritual protection and using what is nothing short of a Christian invocation during paranormal investigations are putting people at risk. If you haven’t already seen cases of paranormal investigators have full or partial possession attempts on them from doing what they do, maybe we need to reconsider how we do paranormal investigations. It is only a matter of time until something may just happen to you! I ask you to think about this.
