What is a Preternatural Mediation you may ask? Well, that is when a person intervenes on behalf of the victim of a haunting, usually a hostile haunting, to remove the invading spirit or ghost. This may be done through several means. Sometimes through a more benign technique called Spirit Transition, where a person attempts to aid the spirit of a deceased person to “move on”. In more hazardous intercessions, a person performs a rites or rituals such as de-possession, exorcism, or vanquishment to rid the victim of a hostile haunting. It is also called a Paranormal Intercession.
What kind of person does this? Not your ordinary member of society, that is for sure. These people are those will some form of psychic ability or a practitioner of some type of religious dogma. Even then, the success of such a person is not guaranteed, for this task is one of the most difficult and often dangerous in the world of the paranormal.
There are many misnomers concerning the removal of paranormal activity today. One of the most common mistakes is when less experienced people use techniques such as smudging. Smudging is the act of burning herbs such as sage, frankincense, etc. in an attempt to remove a spirit from a haunted location. Most people are not aware that this action only cleanses (pushes out) energy temporarily from a location. This is a perfect example of the saying, “a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing” - for the result of this action is usually the eventual return of the entity now extremely angered.
Mediations should be accomplished by qualified, knowledgeable persons who have trained for such an endeavor, and not by overzealous individuals who either read too many books or watches too many paranormal shows on television.
This is an important discussion which I hope to open up here at the Hall, so I welcome your comments and replies.
